Here’s to You: A Round of Applause for Vulnerability Through Movement

Well, another Christmas has come and gone, and we’ve entered our yearly period of limbo. In the days between Christmas and New Years, time ceases to exist. We’re out of our routines, and probably recovering from the whirlwind of the holidays. And then, right when we finally settle down to catch our breath, it begins:

“New year, new you!”

“Start the year strong!”

“January re-set—click here to lose 10lbs by Valentine’s Day!”

We just spent a month juggling family dynamics, buying gifts, being bombarded with expectations, and now we’re being told loud and clear that none of it was good enough. It’s a cruel game that repeats yearly without fail, and the toll it takes runs more deeply than we notice.

But here’s the truth: you matter. You matter not because of your efforts or productivity or accomplishments. You matter inherently. Your value exists in your existence. Through the simple act of being you, you add beauty to the world.

Today, I want to highlight a particular act of vulnerability, of you-ness, that each of you accomplish each time you step into the studio: showing up to move.

In her autobiography “Blood Memory”, Martha Graham wrote:

“Movement never lies. It is a barometer telling the state of the soul’s weather to all who can read it”.

Moving our bodies is one of the most vulnerable ways we can express ourselves. From workouts to creative movement, or just dancing around your kitchen—your body, whether you realize it or not, is telling your story. When you exist in motion, your energy becomes visible. Your internal self becomes external, and that is a brave thing to share.

I applaud you. I applaud you for being brave enough to share your movement with our community. I applaud you for moving to become more in tune with yourself. I applaud you for simply walking through the studio doors.

Every time I teach or participate in class, I get to look around and see people come alive. I get the opportunity to be a part of the energy that fills the room, and that is such a gift.

Vibe Tribe, here’s to you. Here’s to tuning out the noise and seizing the opportunity to exist as you are. Here’s to movement that brings us closer to ourselves and others. As the year turns, I hope you find healing, joy, and release through the physical expression of the things you carry in your heart.
